All smiles! (yes, we are hiding the pain)

For the record.
It was shiong.. but good at the end. I couldn't walk for a walk a day, but at least I know how much I can push myself now. Will talk more about it soon.

yo guys!

wah got a shock when i saw 26 new postings from the blog on my blog lines.. was wondering whos so siao on posted 26 times.

Shaun if you din say you were on a pilot training scheme i would have thought that you were back to OCS. Why so siong man it really sounds like hardcore stuff to the max but i guess end of the day it would be worth it. by the way remember to check your undercarriage before you fly. haha just in case you get a big lobang in your airplane belly . kidding. lol

so i have been back for 6 weeks now. super fast rite.. probably because i have been enjoying the most out of it.
anyhoos got back to glasgow on the 31st and lost my luggage.... thanks to the infamous baggage handling system at london heathrow airport.
You should have seen the -__-"" on my mum's face lol. we arrived at 10 in the night and this handsome old dude came and ask us if we were the "tans" (giving us this queer look thinking why this cheena family has a tan for a surname). yah and they informed us that 1 luggage was in london and the 3 rest MIA. either in bangkok (where we transitted) or in heathrow or in mid flight. they gave us this amenity kit our lost baggage sheet. it wasnt so bad for me as i had my suits and all in my flat but my parents had nothing lol.
the lady told us that all claims are only possible after 24 hrs.. unfortunately graduation was at 11 the next day .. how..... LLST.... my parents went to my graduation in what they were wearing lol. luckily it still looked decent haha but yea it was hilarious for a moment.

following the graduation we went on a 10 day trip to europe. visited amsterdam, germany, austria, italy, switzerland and paris in that order. Had a great time wtih my parents although it can get abit annyoing bringin them around sometimes lol. it was more chilled out than mad rushing since we had the coach that brought us to places. met quite a few people on the trip who were really nice and this girl....................................................... but jsut before you get too excited haha there s no continuation. haha. but somehow haha i felt like a 15 year old for a moment having this puppy love crush for this girl whom i probaly wont see anymore.. and yah... according to my physical assements of her she s probably pre college age whaahahahahaha. for more pictures ( of the trip and not the girl) please follow this link http://community.webshots.com/user/europetrip2008

so i am back at the lab right now....i wont say i am super busy but its been quite tedious looking down the microscope all day but the prize of getting my name on to the papers makes the effort well worth it . weather's been great its qutie sunnya nd aliittle roasting with temperatures reaching an all time high of 29 degress (woahhh... -__-") haha.
i am shifting flat again cos my flatmate's gf is staying with us next year. so shaun if u ever come again u wills ee a new flat haha.
probably going to get a car as well a peugeot 206, 55000 miles, 6 year old 1.4l, 5dr blue, 2000 pounds which i am going to push down to 1700. plus insurance which is the killer hopefully wont have to spend more than 3 k .. but looking forward to making that purchase over the next few weeks.

5 more weeks to the start of my hospital attachemnts. looking forward to it with alittle apprehension in that i havent been practicing my clinical skills but who cares anyway haha just pia .. haha

shao , din know u won the chicken rice thingy congrats. i tried looking up the internet but cldnt find anything and instead found this article that says chatterbox won .. stunned.. but wah congratulations for being one of the si da tian wang. boon tong kee won?? so whats the benefits for your loyal customers lol

Upstairs in a Seletar colonial house

Yo guys!

How have you been man? So long never see you all already...

Some quite-overdue updates from me... My pilot training course started about 6 weeks ago with a 21-day OBS in Malaysia. It was definitely more xiong than i imagined it to be...canoed something like 30km then 25km on consecutive days, rowed this heavy old "whaler" boat (8-oarsman power) for two consecutive days too, trekked in the rain, had crappy sleep outfield in tents, attacked by mosquitoes back in the bunk, etc etc...i won't be going for camping trips anytime soon man. Returned on 6 Jul, and the very next day Ground School at Singapore Flying College began. No welfare man. My new home away from home is one of those old colonial houses in Seletar, very near the 35SCE Seletar Camp. Stay here from Sun-Thu night, get to go home on Fri and Sat nights. Yah sian...stay-in. But slowly getting used to it...been here for 3 wks, and will be here until end-Dec 2008. Everyday I make the short trip over to SFC and study from 8am to 5pm. Like school all over again, only more xiong. Haha. Lots of stuff to study and remember. And the food is really lousy - rice with 2 dishes only. There are 25 people in my batch - all guys, which only adds to the whole Army feel. But it's not all bad lah...accom is actually quite nice. A two-storey house, with two bedrooms upstairs and one bedroom downstairs. All 5 of us in the house sleep upstairs, and I share a room with 2 other guys. Have played soccer a few times with some other guys in the course. Can go out every evening also, just have to be back by 2359...only thing is that later will feel stressed or guilty because would be lagging behind in work. Weekends are especially precious, and usually pass all too quickly. But overall still feeling motivated and upbeat about what is to come!

Oh ya I flew for the first time last Thur! Such a shiok feeling man! I was in a small 2-seater Cessna 152, with the instructor right beside me, and it was mainly an orientation flight but he let me have control of the plane for a while! I also did most of the radio calls. Haha. Most of the flying training will be done in Perth, but we get some hours of basic familiarisation flying here in Seletar too. Guess this is the most exciting part! My next flight is scheduled for tomorrow...hoping for good weather!

So what's happening in your lives? Do update!

Gav and Mulder, our AHM how huh? Haha... I haven't really been training, only ran twice I think since I came back, other than soccer. I'm gonna struggle to complete 21km man!

Shao, your 5-star was voted one of the Chicken Rice Heavenly Kings right! Do we get a free meal for our votes?? Haha.

Alfred, how's your research going in Glasgow? Got any interesting discovery? The pay must come in really handy! Haha.

Let's meet up sometime soon huh?

Take care all and see you soon.

0748: no not 4D winning number..

Yoo Guys, How's it going man?
I am typing this now cos i am freaking sian of work. super tired after a whole day of work and i've still got to pia over the weekend. tried to take a cat nap but just can't seem to fall asleep. so ... i might as well blog a bit LOL!..

so ... i am 3 and a half weeks away from my exams. revisions bad havent touch half of my stuff don't know how i am going to go thorugh it all.. Probably have to burn all the cooking oil in my flat over many many nights and learn the art of bribing your marker. oh well lol.. Hopefully i will make it. besides that i am writng up my project. its quite a pain in the ass doing up drafts and then your supervisor comes up with a new idea and wants you to change some bits. "some" being the keyword. like they say L.L.S.T. but its been quite exciting so far in that i got some really good results and have submitted it for some scientific conference thingy and there's probably more conference which i could submit my article to. if all goes well i might just have a chance to experience something at the international level. Then again, i haven't reach cloud nine and forget all the ground work that needs to be done before my dateline next Monday. That includes my project write up, the abstract, the poster and if i do get selected for the conference, a powerpoint presentation. So its busy busy busy busybusy...

Summer plans.. ya.. i think thats kinda like the most exciting bit of the year well...I'll be reaching Singapore earliest on the 4th of june. staying for about 3 weeks or 3 half to fly back for graduation on the 1st of July. Parents will be coming along with me so that would be good fun. Hoping that i can fly the 380 up. haha have been looking at lots of trip reports on this really magnificant flying whale. Following my graduation, i'll be touring europe with my parents. i don know where i will be going just yet . My parents have asked me to look for tour packages but i really bo xi gang ... haha but got time to blog :P lol.... but yea.. so after europe i was going to plan an impromptu .. (can u actually plan for an impromptu idea?) anyway.. yah was thinking to go to the states for 2 weeks..but i found out that i din have much time because......... (this is also the reason why i am only back in Singapore for 3 weeks).... I've applied to do an 8 week summer research programme with my supervisor to expand on what we have investigated so far. Main reason for doing i guess quite a few.. gain more experience, beef up my CV, get more papers published hopefully, earn some bucks its 90 pounds per week for 8 weeks. but if i get the scholarship that i applied to its 180 pounds per week instead which is quite a decent some of money i must say. yea so that will be my plan for summer.

4th year starts on the 1st of september and i will carry on my research into the first week of 4th year but its just going to be writing up stuff anyway so it dosent really matter. 2 x 5 week blocks of proper medical stuff later i will be back in singapore probably in the 2nd week of december and will be staying for at least 8 weeks (CNY included, + xmas + new year + maybe v day) before flying back to Glasgow and won't be back till... hhaha i'll let u guys know again la lol

so yup my schedule's kinda getting firm up as time goes but thats 95% confirmed.

so ... i guess we should meet up when we get back .. mudler maybe can go out to sea together i take my kayak u take the sail lol and if shaun's interested why not lol.
i know 3 of you are doing your FYP. must be siong rite lol.. i understand. we will get there!.

ok la .. u guys take care and i'll speak to you all soon . i think there s so much to update .. u can't just do it over a single post like this in 748 words!

How's everybody doing?

>> Sunday, March 09, 2008

Hey...yah, how's everybody? Been a while since I met some of you...like gav and shao. Mulder saw him on one of the career fair days. Alfred saw him 6 months back. Ha.

Mulder, been reading your blog...good to hear that there are so many exciting things going on in ur life man. Sailing sounds damn fun...i tried windsurfing once, a friend was kind enough to offer to coach a few of us for free (or was it for a meal, cant rem) and it was difficult and tiring but lots of fun too. Esp when i caught the wind in my sail haha. First Aid course the test wasnt that difficult lah right? Strangely i dont remember sitting for any written test during my first aid course more than 2 years back...it was just a practical test which was kinda like those Army weapon technical handling tests - more or less you're assured of passing one.

Shao and Gav what have you guys been up to? And alfred?

A few updates from my side: I applied for the SIA Cadet Pilot position in late Jan, and was called up for the 1st round of interview on Feb 15th. It wasn't that tough...questions were rather standard and can pass so long as you've done some homework. Received word two weeks later that i made it thru and had to go for a 2nd and final round of interview/tea party plus aptitude test, all conducted in one day. That was this Wed, 5 Mar. There are 10 people in each session of the final round. Morning was the aptitude test. It was similar to the RSAF one...number sequence qns, mental sums + follow-instructions type of qns, reaction time, multi-tasking, joystick-follow-moving-target exercise, control tower decide which action to take exercise, etc. Was quite draining, but not extremely difficult. Was the first to complete it haha.

Afternoon was the interview, where we each went in to be grilled for about 15 minutes. Very kan cheong. Couldn't answer some qns, thought i did well in a couple, but overall the feeling i got after leaving the room was: Jialat lah. I was expecting the worst. Once everyone was done, we had a 30min 'tea party', where we had some light refreshments and chatted with the interviewers (5 of them) who were on the panel earlier. The next day we had to call to find out the results of the interview and whether we needed to go for the medical check-up which is the final hurdle...so of course felt nervous like when retrieving the NUS results. But i made it!! Haha...was overjoyed man. So the next day (Friday) went to the RSAF Aeromedical Centre and had my medical done. Found out that 5 of the 10 of us made it, was hoping there would be more, but quite a number already lah. All of us also had to travel to Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre to seek a second opinion from an Eye Specialist and an ENT Specialist. So by the time we were done it was already close to 3. Have to wait 2-3 weeks for the results and whether SIA will offer the contract. All in, quite an experience haha.

Gavin, one of the successful guys is this guy called Chris Yeow. He said he was a sniper during NSF and i asked whether he knows you and he said yes. Small world eh haha. He has Youth Flying Club experience think that gave him an advantage.

Well, so the euphoria's over and it's back to reality now and FYP. Still facing problems with my simulation...seriously doubt i can get a good working model in time. Haiz. But as a friend i met on the bus the other day said, if i pass the medical then can heck-care FYP already. Which is quite true didnt think of that before hahaha.

Grad trip plans: Should be going to IndoChina - Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, but not confirmed. For 21 days or so, 18 May onwards. With some USP friends. Are we planning a Europe trip? Haha...must see budget though.

Ok must catch up soon or once the worst of FYP is over. Hope all of you are doing well man.

Shaun

P.S. Wah how did Man Utd lose in the FA Cup man...the ball just wouldn't go in. But my money's still on them to retain the Premiership and go far in the Champions League, if not win it. Haha.

Happy Chinese New Year 2008!!

>> Friday, February 08, 2008

Hi guys,

Haven't been blogging for quite a while. Just been busy and clearing n sorting stuff. By the time I got time to blog, it's usually after a long game of CZ or just wanting to spend time to catch up on shows that I downloaded.

Now that I've cleared the stuff before CNY and now that it's the 2nd day, could finally spend some time clearing stuff on friendster, adding frens and of course checking out this blog. It was then I realised Shaun posted something. No wonder he sent us the sms. Must be thinking we forgot all about this blog. But hey, it's was a nice update.

Btw, how come u go this kinda talks? I think I should be the one going. Will get the book from u one day. Then again, I think I know the ropes, I just gotta get some guts to do something.

On tht note, I'm, erm, still free on vday. Not really planning anything, cept for a movie marathon at my laptop. Yeah, vday is like next week.

Before we get to vday, how's everyone's CNY? Must be the usual i guess. Mine was same as before, except tht i invited a few frens from Hall this time round though. Counted the usual angbaos, meeting the same relatives, catching up with the usual questions.

And before CNY, besides all the clearing and cleaning my stuff that I've been telling ppl for like a month (I was really doing this for a month since I grad and moved back home), I was also job hunting (which I kept telling everyone as well) and signed up for Yoga class. Yup u heard me. No, I'm not stressed yet but hey there's no harm. So far only one replied to my resumes and email, which I'm doing as part-time at the moment. The boss did offer full-time though, but I'm still keeping my options open. But this one reply was kinda like my dream job.

Job description(my opening line for ppl): I bring kids to field trips. Trips to the beach, mangrove, etc and teach them about the wildlife there. At the same time, I also do CIP with them, ie, community service hours. Then I tell them about conservation and the environment. Each trip last an afternoon (1pm-5pm) and it's max 3 times a week on weekdays. How much I'm really paid? I'm not really sure actually. But during the interview my boss said 36/hr, which is good sh*t seriously. But hey, you don't get many ppl who can point to you something at the beach and start talking what animal it is ok...

So why does it fit my dream job? 1. I'm doing something related to my degree. Not many ppl do that nowadays. 2. I'm not stuck in the lab, and I get to go outdoors like all the time. 3. I get to impart my knowledge to the next generation, which I do for astro, so now it's biology.

So what's stopping you doing full time? Well, the full time pay doesn't sound nice. And if there's a lab job paying higher, I'm willing to tahan and do it for now, period. So since the rejection rate is getting higher, it's time to really send more resumes. Another indicator is that I just went back hall to eat dinner, which I once said, "If you come back and have hall dinner, it's really time to press the red button." So yeah, it's time to panic. But yeah, CNY's here and here I am blogging with all the time in the world.

As for the Yoga classes, I just went for my first lesson on CNY eve. There were like only 8 ppl, and I was the only guy. Think gotta get used to it. It was a basic yoga class, so it's mainly stretching and doing some basic yoga positions. Still, I broke out a sweat and some of my muscles were aching the next day. Signs of old age. But yeah, the first impression ppl give me is like, "you go to pick up girls is it?" I can't deny the ease of that, but hell you gotta look like a regular first and at least look semi-pro before trying to take these ppl who go like all the time.

But that's not the point. I do have ppl in mind but just can't decide at the moment. It's like holding a grenade but not knowing when to let the pin go and count the 3 seconds. I just can't seem to forsee when the end of that 3 seconds is. But just like a grenade, sometimes you just gotta throw it and hopes it explodes and hits the mark.

Well, that's from me for now. Can catch up when we have our monthly meeting. Shaun, you should join the club, but there's a membership "clause". hehehe.....
